Dog Treats!

I have dogs that seem to get itchy and react to things so I always spent way too much on limited ingredient treats but one day I poured the little bag of them into a jar and was shocked at how little was in the bag for $7.99!!! I decided my fresh flour would be a good route for them and smushed a bunch of recipes together into this! They love it and they don’t react!

In my Kitchen Aid I add all ingredients and mix it up!

Dog Treats Recipe:

1-2 C of canned pumpkin

1/2 C peanut butter

2 eggs

2-4 TBS Honey

2-4 TBS coconut oil

1 tsp iodized salt (it’s good for them!)

3-4 C of flour, any grain type!

(PS, I don’t measure any of this and just add more flour until I like the texture)

What I look for is a smooth, gummy texture. If it’s gummy, I can roll it out onto a silicone baking sheet that is on the cookie sheet. It’s usually around 1/4 inch thick. Then I use a pasta cutter and roll back and forth all over until it’s in small pieces. And bake at 325 degrees F for 20-30 minutes. They are soft due to the pumpkin.

Sometimes it’s more like a batter, usually this happens if I add too much pumpkin and not enough flour. It’s ok though. Spread it out (instead of roll), then bake for 10-12 minutes, take it out and cut it the same way, with a pasta roller thing, and bake some more!

I buy large Costco cans of pumpkin so I am usually making a double batch and freezing most of it. I keep out one jar at a time as it will mold like fresh bread does! Sometimes I keep the jar in the fridge but if the jar is small it’s ok to leave it out on the counter as it will be gone within a few days! Then I grab a fresh jar and fill it up from the frozen ones!

You can see here I have the tiny jar of expensive treats next to my homemade ones. LOL. I’ve been feeding these to my dogs for many months and they still love them!
